Cyprus hopes casinos lift economy

Cyprus, the Greek controlled Southern part, is turning to casinos to lift its suffering economy, Reuters reported. The country will relax gambling laws and offer tax incentives, the report said. Casinos do operate on the Turkish controlled North side of the island, Reuters noted.

Bwin.party have announced they are blocking players from 18 countries within the EU and also South America. Those countries involved are Greece, Poland, Romania, Cyprus, Finland, Serbia, Armenia, Belarus, Croatia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Argentina, Brazil and finally Columbia. Casinos in Cyprus?

At long last Cyprus could eventually see land based casinos in the south of the island within two years, according to new Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis. This week the new Minister said in parliament that he already had asked the Cyprus Tourism Organisation to review and update the previous 2007 study on gambling. Following the new findings the Government will then decide on how to proceed with casinos, whether they be part of a large resort or single standalone entities.
